I have been painting for the past six years. I am painting exclusively in oils with emphasis on landscape and some still life scenes.
I see an image and get excited about putting it on canvas. I want the viewer to identify with the scene and that the image is pleasing to them. There are days when I have to paint. Painting is a calming activity for me even when I struggle with getting an image just right. Sometimes I will walk away for a day or switch to a different painting. I often have 3 paintings in various stages of completion.
I am inspired by watching the techniques of others and seeing how they approach a scene. I have been especially drawn to using the painting knife and try to use it in every painting. I usually apply a neutral color acrylic base on a new canvas followed by rough blocking with a large brush before I begin the scene at hand.
